Week #12 Motivational Video...

Here is the motivational video the team watched before Saturday's historic win..

Suber tabbed as Sun Belt Defensive POW...

Middle Tennessee's Alex Suber was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday by members of the media as announced by the league office.

Suber led a Blue Raider defense at Louisiana-Monroe that came up with three interceptions, 12 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks to help the team win its fourth road game of the year.

The senior from Tampa, Fla., accounted for eight tackles, a sack, a TFL, a pass breakup and an interception that he returned 56 yards to key a defense that moved to No. 1 in the league in scoring defense. Suber's sack was the third of the game for the Blue Raiders and was the one that broke the single-season team record.

Suber's interception came late in the third quarter with Middle Tennessee holding a 21-13 lead. The senior stepped in front of a Trey Revell pass and returned it 56 yards to set up a touchdown and give the Blue Raiders a comfortable 28-13 advantage.

The Blue Raiders have now picked up nine player of the week honors this season and 61 all-time (21 offense, 20 defense, 21 special teams). Under Rick Stockstill, the Blue Raiders have now won 34 player of the week awards.

Blue Raiders invade NASCAR...

Middle Tennessee will enter the realm of NASCAR this weekend as its logo will appear on the 31-W Insulation 05 Nationwide Series race car at Homestead, Fla. The 31-W car is making the space available for Middle Tennessee to promote the University and athletics.

Mark Day from Clarksville, Tenn. will drive the number 05 car this Saturday in the Ford 300 at Homestead Miami Speedway. The race will be televised on ESPN2 at 3 p.m., cst.

Andy Rippy, the COO of 31-W Insulation, said this will be great exposure for Middle Tennessee, as their logo will be seen by millions on ESPN2. Rippy also said there are plans to have MTSU back on the car when the series comes to Nashville Superspeedway next spring.

On Saturday, the MT logo will be on the hood, lower quarter panels, and TV panel with 31-W Insulation on the quarter panels.

31-W is an insulation company based out of Goodlettsville, Tenn. In addition to insulation, the company sells fireplaces, shelving, garage doors, and many other home improvement products. The company has grown into the second largest insulation company in the Southeast with 40 branches in 12 states, including one in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The company is still family owned, and about 40 years ago, the family caught the racing bug. The last 20 years they have spent racing in the NASCAR Nationwide/Busch Series.

The team has had big name drivers such as David Ragan, now driving the number 6 UPS Ford for Roush-Fenway Racing. David Green, Jeff Green and David Starr have driven for them as well. This weekend though, it'll be another Tennessean.

Dasher tabbed as Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week...

Dasher sparked the second half scoring surge against Louisiana, highlighting the afternoon by setting the single-season total offense school record after accumulating 308 Saturday. He now has 3,040 yards through the 10 games, 178 yards past the previous mark set by Clint Marks in 2004 and still has two regular-season games to play. Dasher completed the game by hitting 16-of-25 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns, his seventh 200-yard game of the season and ninth of his career. On the first play from scrimmage in the second half, Dasher bolted for 46 yards before finding a wide-open receiver on the next play for a 19-yard touchdown pass. By throwing for two scores, Dasher increased his season tally to 15, six shy of the single-season school standard. He gained 89 yards on the ground, averaging 5.2 per rush. Dasher also improved to 11-4 as the starting quarterback and set a junior class passing record with 2,248 yards.

The Blue Raiders have now picked up eight player of the week honors this season and 61 all-time (21 offense, 19 defense, 21 special teams). Under Rick Stockstill, the Blue Raiders have now won 33 player of the week awards.

Honoring the 278th ACR...

The Blue Raiders are proud to be taking some extra steps this week to honor a very special group of people, Tennessee's 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment.

Click on the insignia for a history of the 278th

As part of the 28th annual Salute to Armed Services/Veterans event this Saturday, the Middle Tennessee football team will wear the unit's insignia on its helmet to honor the Tennessee-based 278th Armored Calvary Regiment. The team will keep the insignia on their helmets until the regiment comes home from Iraq, which is expected to be in January 2011.

"We just want to show respect for the men and women who are protecting our country," said Head Coach Rick Stockstill. "This is a way to honor the entire mid-state and I hope everyone comes out Saturday to show their support."

The 278th is comprised of about 4,000 Tennesseans and is Tennessee's largest National Guard unit; the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment is headquartered in Knoxville.

"It is an unbelievable honor for Middle Tennessee to recognize the 278th ACR during this special day honoring all veterans," said Col. Jeff Holmes, MTSU Alumni and Commander of the 278th. "It is this kind of simple gesture that inspires our soldiers to serve this great country and make them proud to be Tennesseans. Words cannot express our gratitude."

Also part of the event, the Parachute Demonstration Team "Screaming Eagles", 101st Airborne Division from Fort Campbell, KY, will parachute in the game ball.

"This is a sign of our appreciation for all the men and women who are serving our country. We owe them all the support we can provide," said Assistant AD for Marketing and Promotions, Brad Smith.

All Veterans, active military and families will receive complimentary tickets to the game which can be picked up at the pre game picnic located on the grounds of the Kennon Sports Hall of Fame. Tickets are on a first come, first serve basis.

The Winners Board...

We have had some questions about the "Winners Board" in our Gameday room so the expose below will hopefully explain its purpose.

Each Sunday the coaching staff with sift through a few hours of film looking at how our players performed and will then grade them on that performance. Based on that grade and his personal thoughts on the game each coach will then determine which, if any, of the players at his position performed well enough to be designated a "Winner" for that week. During Sunday's staff meeting coaches will discuss players at their position and designate who their winners were.

After final approval from Coach Stock, the "Winners" will be announced to the team at the Monday team meeting and each player will receive two claps from his peers. The office staff will also go to work printing headshots of each player who was a winner. Players are grouped into three categories; special teams, offense and defense which correspond to groupings on the display board in the team's gameday room. After pictures are printed the player's photo is placed on the board under that game for all to see.

Pair of Blue Raiders selected as SBC Players of the Week...

Middle Tennessee's Dwight Dasher and Jeremy Kellem were voted the Sun Belt Conference Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, by the league's media members on Monday.

Dasher picked up his second award of the season after leading the Blue Raider offensive attack with 360 total yards of offense in the win over FIU, including 178 rushing yards. The junior now has 703 overall yards on the ground this season which breaks the school record for rushing yards by a quarterback. The previous mark was 594 set by Marvin Collier in 1985.

It was also the second-straight 100-yard rushing game for the signal-caller and third of his career, one shy of the career record in school history for quarterbacks. Dasher also accounted for five touchdowns, including a career-best three on the ground. Overall, Dasher became the first player in Middle Tennessee history to throw for more than 2,000 yards and rush for more than 500 yards in a single season.

Kellem picked up his second career honor but his first on special teams. The junior safety blocked his second punt in as many weeks when he rejected the first FIU attempt of the second quarter to set up the second Middle Tennessee touchdown of the first quarter. The Blue Raiders needed only 44 yards on the short field for the score. The North Lauderdale, Fla., native now has four blocks in his career, tying the school record. Kellem also added an interception later in the game on defense.

The Blue Raiders have now picked up seven player of the week honors this season and 60 all-time (20 offense, 19 defense, 21 special teams). Under Rick Stockstill, the Blue Raiders have now won 32 player of the week awards.

Searching the Southeast...

Its mostly empty and quiet around the football offices in the Murphy Center today. That's because most of the coaches left town last night after practice in order to spread out across the southeast looking to build next February's signing class.

During the season coaches will travel to high schools to collect information and watch prospects that are on our recruiting board and they will also visit schools looking for players that are under the radar or that haven't been discovered yet. Middle Tennessee's staff is very efficient and effective at leaving not stone unturned as they are constantly evaluating talent to find the right fight for this year's signing class.

Coaches will be in schools all day Friday and even catch a few games on Friday night before driving back to Murfreesboro in time for team meetings at the hotel on Saturday.
